Louis Jourdan, the French actor who is best remembered for playing Gaston in the 1958 Best Picture Oscar winner Gigi, has died. He was 93.

Jourdan’s death was first reported in France by Le Point. He died on Saturday at his Beverly Hills home.

Jourdan made his American film debut in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1947 courtroom drama The Paradine Case. Throughout the late ‘40s and ‘50s, he continued working in Hollywood and was famed for his dashing good looks.

His other major films include the romantic Max Ophuls film Letter from an Unknown Woman, The Swan with Alec Guinness and Grace Kelly, 1982’s Swamp Thing and the 1978 James Bond film Octopussy.

However, he is best known for playing the eternally bored Gaston in Vincente Minnelli’s Gigi, opposite Leslie Caron. In total, the film walked away with nine Oscars, including Best Picture. It also earned Jourdan a Golden Globe nomination, the only one in his long career.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, he also dabbled with television work, appearing in the BBC’s Count Dracula in 1977.

Jourdan also has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and received France’s Legion of Honour in 2010.

Jourdan was married to Berthe Frederique for over 60 years. She died in 2014. Their son died in 1981.
