Lupita Nyong'o stunned at last weekend's Oscars in a one-of-a-kind, custom Calvin Klein Collection white dress featuring 6,000 white Akoya pearls. The dress was valued at $150,000 and was stolen out of Lupita's room at The London West Hollywood hotel, TMZ reported.
Police received a call at 11:23 p.m. on Wednesday night claiming the 12 Years a Slave actress had been robbed. The dress was taken some time between 8AM and 9PM Tuesday while she was out, police say. They are currently reviewing security surveillance videos and interviewing staff and other witnesses in order to catch the burglar, E! reports.
"This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation," The London West Hollywood hotel said in a statement.
Designer Francisco Costa collaborated with Nyong'o for months to create the spectacular gown.
"[We created] a series of textures with intricate placements of a variety of different-sized pearls," Costa told Vogue. "We looked at a variety of different pearls—South Sea, iridescent, and natural—and decided that the natural pearls looked the most beautiful."
Let's hope they find the culprit!
