Madonna has reportedly been dropped from BBC Radio 1 because of her age. Madonna is currently promoting her latest album Rebel Heart and her current single, “Living For Love."

Inquisitr reported that BBC Radio 1 has explained that they are targeting the 15-29 age group.

Madonna is has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is known as a pop music icon but the radio station is explaining that in the end it is about relevance. "At the end of the day it’s all about relevance. It’s natural that as an artist gets older their audience goes elsewhere and Radio 1 has to reflect that," explained a BBC insider.

A representative from the company went on to explain that, “Tracks are chosen on musical merit, and while around 40 per cent of the country’s 15 to 29-year-olds tune into Radio 1 each week, an artist’s age is never a factor.”

Madonna has had over 13 number one hits in the U.K. between 1985 and 2008 but hasn't had as much success in recent years, Daily Mail added.

The "Material Girl" hasn't been pulled from BBC Radio all together, she is being played on BBC Radio 2, which is targeted at adults who are over +35 plus.
