Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden is hoping for another regular television role. She has agreed to star in Code Black, a new medical drama pilot for CBS.

The pilot is based on a documentary by Ryan McGarry and centers on the busy emergency room at LA County Hospital. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harden will play Christa, whose son has died from cancer. She decided to study to become a doctor. Her views and life experience help her stand out among her younger fellow residents.

Michael Seitzman (Intelligence) is writing the script and executive producing. It is a CBS TV Studios/ABC Studios co-production.

As TV Line notes, Harden recently appeared on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. She was also seen on the short-lived ABC comedy Trophy Wife and has appeared in Law & Order: SVU.

Harden can also be seen on the big screen in Fifty Shades of Grey and was in Woody Allen’s Magic In The Moonlight. She won an Oscar for Pollock.
