MSNBC is facing serious ratings woes, so it’s no surprise that changes are coming. Shows hosted by Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid have already been cancelled.
The network, a division of NBCUniversal and featuring NBC News journalists, made the announcement in a memo, posted at Deadline, today. Farrow hosted Ronan Farrow Daily, while Reid hosted The Reid Report.
With both shows getting canned, MSNBC will refocus its entire daily programming on news, rather than replacing Ronan and Reid with more pundits. Thomas Roberts will host a two-hour news block in their place.
Farrow and Reid will remain in the MSNBC family, though. Farrow, the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, will produce primetime specials featuring interviews. Reid will take the role of national correspondent.
Both shows remained on the air for a year, despite their awful ratings during the day. It was particularly surprising that Farrow had completely failed to draw young audiences, averaging just 21,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
Farrow tweeted that he is “excited” to take a new role and planned to make an announcement soon.
