Happy Endings fans are still hurting from the show’s cancellation in 2013, but could the series possibly be making a comeback? Or are we totally being messed with right now?
The speculation began when on Friday night the official Happy Endings writers Twitter account tweeted a link to a mysterious countdown.
Since then, the account has been retweeting fans freaking out in excitement over what the tweet could mean. We don’t want to speculate too much based only on this, but why else would the Happy Endings writers suddenly tweet something like this if it wasn’t to prepare us for an announcement?
And a Happy Endings revival could actually make a lot of sense. As pointed out by Bustle, a lot of the cast who moved on to other projects are now suddenly free. Damon Wayans Jr. is leaving New Girl, Adam Pally is leaving The Mindy Project, Eliza Coupe’s show Benched was cancelled, and Casey Wilson’s show Marry Me may be on the chopping block. Could this really be happening?
Happy Endings ran on ABC for three seasons before being cancelled in 2013. Passionate fans tried to save the show and there was talks of being picked up by another network, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but in the end nothing materialized. But in a world where Arrested Development can return after seven years and Community can be saved by Yahoo, why not Happy Endings too?
The last time we saw a mysterious countdown like this on Twitter it was from David Lynch, and it ended up leading to a Twin Peaks revival, as we previously reported. Could the same thing be happening here?
Maybe we shouldn’t get too excited though, because here’s what's worrisome: the countdown ends on April 1st. Could this just be the most elaborate and cruel April Fools Day prank of all time? In 52 days, we’ll find out for sure.
