Finally, Nintendo appears to be ready to once again test film and television. The video game company is reportedly working with Netflix to develop a series based on The Legend of Zelda.

The new series will be live action and will follow the classic Zelda story, with young Link being asked to save the princess Zelda from evil forces in Hyrule. A source told the Wall Street Journal that the show is being developed as a “Game of Thrones for a family audience.”

The first Zelda game was released in the U.S. in 1987 and since then, Nintendo has made over 20 games, including hits like Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past and Majora’s Mask.

Nintendo is notorious for being wary about turning its properties into television shows or movies because it has had almost no success. As Forbes points out, there was a Zelda cartoon series in 1989. The last time a Nintendo game became a movie was the infamous 1993 Super Marios Bros. movie.

Of course, a lot has changed since 1993, so maybe Nintendo is finally ready to take another shot.

Nintendo and Netflix did not comment on the report.
