Forward Nick Collison signed a multi-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The extension is for two years and will pay Collison about $8 million, according to Yahoo Sports. This season he is making $2.2 million and is in the final year of his contract.
“It’s been a great professional experience since the day I arrived,” Collison said in a statement. “I’m proud of what we have built together and I am grateful to be able to stay with the club and continue to work together.”
Thunder general manager Sam Presti said that Collison is a valuable player for the Thunder and that they are excited about Collison staying with the Thunder.
Collison was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics, who are now the Thunder, in 2003. He is the longest tenured player on the Thunder. He has played all 11 seasons for the Thunder. This season he is averaging 3.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, according to ESPN. He has an average of 6.4 points and 5.5 rebounds in his 11 year career.
Collison would have been a free agent after this season if a deal hadn’t been reached.
