Harris Wittels, executive producer of Parks and Recreation, was found dead in his Los Feliz home today.
The thirty-year old was found nonresponsive by his assistant, who then contacted the LAPD. He was pronounced dead around 1:00 p.m. It appears as though the cause of death is a drug overdose.
According to TMZ, Wittels had a history of drug abuse, and even entered rehab twice. It was also reported that drug paraphernalia was found in the house.
ET spoke with a friend of Wittels who indicated that he was depressed with the ending of Parks and Recreation, which will air its finale on Feb. 24, as well as frustrated with a lack of new opportunities. This scenario lends credence to the “drug overdose” cause of death.
Wittels is also known for his work on Eastbound and Down, and The Sarah Silverman Program, as well as creating the “ Humblebrag” (bragging in a seemingly humble way) hashtag on Twitter.
Though his previous shows may not have been as successful, #Humblebrag gained a lot of attention, and some of the tweets with the hashtag were even published in a book with the same title.
