NBA shooting guard Richard “Rip” Hamilton has called it a career after 14 seasons.
The Bleacher Report noted that Hamilton announced his retirement Thursday while on ESPN’s His & Hers .
His announcement doesn’t come as complete shock since the last time he played a game was in the 2012-13 season with the Chicago Bulls. During an interview with CBS Sports in July though, he said that he wanted to play another year and have the opportunity to compete for a championship again.
Hamilton also revealed that while he enjoyed spending time with his family after he was cut by the Bulls, he missed the competitiveness of the game and being in the locker room.
In addition to the Bulls and the Washington Wizards, Hamilton will be remembered most for his time in Detroit where spent the majority of his career, won a championship and had a nasty exit.
The 37-year-old had a very public feud in the Motor City with former head coach John Kuester and the Pistons bought out his contract in 2011.
Maybe now that he has hung it up for good his jersey will go up in rafters one day at The Palace of Auburn Hills, ya never know.
