Sam Smith just about swept the Grammys last night, winning the coveted Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Stay With Me."
Backstage, Smith talked about songs on In The Lonely Hour and the inspiration behind them. He joked he can touch his Grammys, but he only has one chance, Rolling Stone reports.
"What's beautiful about this record to me is I didn't play a character," he explained, "It was just me being me. I was living my life and just spoke about it through music, and I'm going to do the same again."
He went on to say that songs like “Stay With Me” are always the songs he’s unsure of at first. He said they always “turn out to be the best ones.”
Smith, who thanked the man who broke his heart onstage last night, said about returning home to England, "I'll be seeing him soon. So I can let him touch the Grammy — once."
