A nautical classic will be pulled out of the past for Amazon’s younger viewers. Amazon Studios has partnered with producers Sid and Marty Krofft to reimagine their ‘70s TV show Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.

According to Deadline, the Kroffts have been hired to develop a pilot for Amazon. Their original show premiered in 1973 and ran for two seasons.

The Kroffts made their name by creating a string of live-action fantasy shows that dominated Saturday mornings. Some of the most famous shows they were responsible for were H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost. In the ‘80s, they also produced variety shows and the Richard Pryor series Pryor’s Place.

The plot of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters followed two brothers, Johnny and Scott Stuart, who befriend the sea monster Sigmund. Sigmund was disowned by his family for refusing to frighten people, so the Stuarts help hide him from inquisitive adults and other monsters.

Amazon has been attracting talented artists to its studios, a task no doubt aided by Transparent’s recent Golden Globe wins. As previously noted, Woody Allen is also working on a project for Amazon Studios, his first foray into television.
