Two employees of an auction house are going through the artifacts when a strange man arrives and approaches a book that contains spells. He pulls out a knife and cuts his wrist. He then performs a spell that kills the woman and the security guard.

Ichabod and Abbie are at an open house where Ichabod says he is doing a “scouting expedition.” Abbie shows him the modern world of marketing, which confuses Ichabod. Ichabod says he eventually needs his own place to live outside of Corbin’s cabin. Abbie gets a call about the murders at the auction house. The two people murdered had their blood boiled and Ichabod recognizes the book that was stolen. It belonged to John Dee, who spent years compiling spells into the books. He was a scholar who wanted to understand the power of the dark forces.

They find Katrina in the forest continuing to train her powers and Katrina immediately recognizes the spell book. Ichabod fears this is another spirit released from Purgatory after Moloch’s death. Katrina still mourns the assumed death of their son. We see Henry alive in a motel, appearing to have been there for quite some time. He notices the news reporting the murders at the auction house. Henry seems to be having problems with his troubling past.

Abbie and Ichabod discover that the blood at the scene of the crime contained moonflower and didn’t belong to the victims. It has ties with blood magic and the dark arts. A destructive force of sorcery that taps into evil sources. They find what is left of the security footage of the auction house and see the face of Solomon Kent…who Katrina reveals is a warlock that all witches fear and that terror and death will follow him.

They do their history on Solomon Kent. He was one of the leaders of Salem and became one of the leaders of the Salem Witch Trials. Katrina recalls that her mother was there and remembers Kent’s infatuation with a young woman named Sarah Osbourne. He cared for her but she did not feel the same so he killed her then convinced everyone to kill the witches. He eventually was caught by the remaining witch Coven and exiled to Purgatory. Katrina hopes to track the last place Kent performed a spell. They visit the auction house and discover that Kent can’t access his power since the pages from the book have been separated.

Abbie notices that Captain Irving has been tailing her. He is upset that Abbie doubts his trust and that he went to Katrina and she proved that his soul is clean. Irving said their relationship is good and he is ready for a fresh start. Henry returns to his motel room and find the landlord’s son doing maintenance and Henry is holding a model that looks just like Moloch. Henry seems very confused about what he is doing.

Abbie talks to Ichabod about his conversation with Irving. She says Irving wants to let go of the past. This triggers an idea in Ichabod’s head: what if Kent can’t let go of his past? There is a resurrection spell in the book and Ichabod believes that Kent is trying to bring Sarah Osbourne back to life. He will bring her soul back but other evil souls will return as well.

They arrive to try and intercept Kent before he can find the missing pages of the book. They find Kent looking for the pages and he uses his powers to knock out Abbie and Ichabod. Katrina arrives and uses her own power against Kent. Kent recognizes Katrina and Katrina claims she will avenge her family. Kent tells Katrina that she is torn with her own ability. He then performs a spell that sees two creatures rise from his blood. The creatures attack them while Kent locates the missing pages. Katrina goes to stop him while Ichabod and Abbie battle the demons.

Kent is trying to complete the spell when Katrina attempts to stop him. Kent tries to manipulate her and tells her that she should search the darkness and she will discover her true self. She begins to summon this power and is terrified. Ichabod and Abbie kill the creatures and find Katrina who informs them that Kent has completed the book and Katrina can’t stop him.

The battle has taken its toll on Katrina and she informs Ichabod of the parts of her powers she hasn’t fully discovered yet. Abbie meets with Irving at the bar and asks him if he remembers anything when returning from the dead. Irving says he has a new perspective on life and that Abbie has to keep fighting.

Henry sees some men threatening his landlord and her son. It appears Henry might have some evil intentions in mind.

Ichabod and Abbie discover that Kent is attempting to re-create the Traveler’s spell, which will send him back in time so he can be with Sarah. This will also rewrite history and change everything they have ever known. Kent will need an enormous amount of energy to perform this spell and he will try when the moon is closet to the earth. Irving arrives at The Archives to help them with this mission.

Kent is deep in the woods preparing to perform the spell. He summons a doorway where he can see Sarah in the past. Ichabod confronts him and distracts him while Irving shoots him in the neck with a drug that causes hallucinations. Kent’s magic is now vulnerable and they use electricity to shock and knock out Kent. Ichabod beats down Kent out of anger and they lose sight of Irving and search for him.

We see Irving appear over Kent’s body and steal the spell book. He then proceeds to break Kent’s neck. It appears that Irving was lying about his true intentions. They return to the cabin where Ichabod reveals that something in Kent’s story angered him. He couldn’t fathom how Kent could turn on people he cared so much about. He says it seems that everyone is walking dangerously close between darkness and the light.

Katrina comes out of her room after they leave and continues to learn about her powers. She then tries to again summon the dark powers and is still scared about her possible potential. Henry confronts the men who threatened the landlord and her son and says they reminded him of the natural order of the world: there are sheep and wolves. Henry says he is a wolf. He then kills all of them.

Henry goes to the location where Moloch died and meets with Irving. Irving says “the witnesses” trust him again and gives Henry the stolen spell book. Henry says his time as The Horseman of War is over. “Destiny will bend to my will” Henry says and says that it has ended, it has only just begun…
