The Syracuse men's basketball program has issued a self-imposed postseason ban for this season in response to an ongoing NCAA investigation.
MSN reports that the Orange will not be able to partake in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, the ACC tournament, or the National Invitational Tournament. The ban was placed in response to a NCAA investigation that the school started when it reported potential violations that occured within the athletic department in 2007.
“I am very disappointed that our basketball team will miss the opportunity to play in the postseason this year,” coach Jim Boeheim said. “However, I supported this decision and I believe the University is doing the right thing by acknowledging that past mistakes occurred."
The New York Daily News reports that Boeheim along with Syracuse officials met with the NCAA's Committee of Infractions in October and are awaiting to find out if the NCAA will issue any punishments of their own. The investigation stems from claims that the Syracuse athletic department had academic issues and failed drug tests prior to 2012.
Syracuse is currently 15-7 with a 6-3 record in the ACC.
