Taylor Swift is explaining why she posted that buzzworthy photo of herself in a bikini while on vacation with some friends last month, saying she did it to spite paparazzi.

Swift unveiled her mysterious belly button in a photo with her friends, the sisters from Haim, while they were vacationing in Hawaii.

She had previously said she doesn’t like to show her belly button, joking she only wanted to “partially commit to the midriff thing.”

So it was surprising when she posted the photo of her bikini and showed her entire stomach. But she explained in an interview with BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show on Tuesday that she posted it to drive down the price of the paparazzi’s sneaky photos.

“Basically, on the last day (of their vacation) we see a fishing boat a half mile away,” she said, realizing it was paparazzi with long lenses.

Once they realized the paparazzi snapped photos of them in their bikinis, she decided to do something about it.

"So we're like, 'Get up on the bow of the boat, we're taking better bikini shots so they don't make as much money on theirs,” she said.

Swift also said she can’t ever really relax on vacation because of the paparazzi. “I'm always checking,” she said. “I'm looking a mile away. It's been 10 years of this."
