Vanilla Ice was arrested for burglary in Florida last week and has already spoken out about it. But he was on Good Morning America this morning and danced around the topic.
Back on Feb. 18, it was reported that Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was accused of going into a home in foreclosure to allegedly steal furniture, bicycles, a pool heater and other items while renovating a nearby home for his TV show The Vanilla Ice Project. The alleged incident happened between December and this month.
A day after the reports, Van Winkle told ABC News that the arrest was a misunderstanding and that he hopes to clear his name.
Coincidentally, Van Winkle was scheduled to go on Good Morning America today to promote The Vanilla Ice Project. That allowed him a chance to talk about the arrest again, but he declined to go into details. Instead, he said that the arrest was “just blown out of proportion.”
“That’s all I can say about it right now. It’s just a mess and I’m dealing with it,” he said.
“I’m purchasing the house,” Van Winkle added. “I can’t really talk much about it other than that, but you know, I’m dealing with it.”
The home that he allegedly stole property from is in Palm Beach County and is near one he already owns and is renovating. The items were valued at a combined $6,000 and were later found at Van Winkle’s home. They have since been returned to the owner.
