Authorities in Arizona have said that a gunman shot multiple people at various locations in Mesa on Wednesday morning.

The Arizona Republic reported that a source said shortly before 9 a.m. local time, three people were shot in a motel room. One person died from a gunshot wound.

A lone gunman then fled to the campus of the East Valley Institute of Technology and allegedly stole a car and shot a student there, police said. The Mesa Community College, which is in the same neighborhood, was then put on lockdown.

The suspect then headed to the S. Longmore area and shot two more people.

The Washington Post noted that during a briefing with reporters Mesa Detective Esteban Flores acknowledged that they have an active shooter situation.

Police confirmed that they are in the process of trying to track down the suspect, who remains at large, before anyone else is hurt.

Flores described the suspected gunman as white male in his 40s, with a bald head and a tattoo on his neck. If you see someone matching that description do not approach him, but call 911 immediately.

Mesa is located about 20 miles outside of Phoenix.
