The fiancée of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez testified that the athlete was drunk the night Odin Lloyd was killed.
NECN noted that Shayanna Jenkins took the witness stand on Friday and told the court that Hernandez was intoxicated on the evening of June 17, 2013, when the victim was murdered. She also talked about finding a handgun in the home and her partner’s habit of smoking pot.
As previously reported, last month the 25-year-old Jenkins, who is facing perjury charges for lying to a grand jury, was granted immunity for her new testimony.
She and Hernandez have been together since they were teenagers and have a two-year-old daughter. As Jenkins got down from the stand, she looked in her fiancé’s direction and appeared to be mouthing the words “I love you.”
Hernandez is accused of killing Lloyd, who was dating Jenkins’ sister Shaneah, at the time of his death. He was found shot in an industrial park not far from the ex-NFL player’s home.
Prosecutors have said that they believe Jenkins disposed of the weapon for Hernandez. The gun used in the slaying has never been found.
The former tight end has plead not guilty to murder.
