Ever since he entered the big leagues, Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen has been known for his incredible playmaking skills and those dreadlocks. But he will look very different in 2015, since he just got them cut off.

McCutchen posted a video on Twitter and YouTube, announcing “Here’s to #newbeginnings.” The video shows the step-by-step process it takes to remove the locks. He also posted a “before and after” photo on Instagram.

“As sad as i hate to see them go, I was ready for a change. I will be donating my locs as well as auctioning them off for a great cause,” McCutchen wrote on Instagram.

At least it is for a good cause. He plans on putting them up for auction on MLB.com, with proceeds going to charity.

McCutchen has been a star for the Pirates since he debuted in 2009 and has made the NL All-Star every year since 2011. He also won the 2013 NL MVP award. He has also helped the Pirates make it to the postseason two years in a row, although they were knocked out in the NL Wild Card game last season.

While it will be really strange to see McCutchen play without his trademark dreadlocks, that won’t stop him from keeping up his level of performance.
