One of the benefits of being a celebrity is the ability to raise awareness and advocate for important causes. Actor Jared Padalecki is currently using his fame to help others by teaming up with the nonprofit organization To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA).

Padalecki has won over fans with his representation of demon killer Sam Winchester in the television show Supernatural as well as dreamy Dean Forester in Gilmore Girls. According to TV Guide, his first appearance in the spotlight came after winning a contest to present one of the 1999 Teen Choice Awards.

However, Padalecki’s recent advocacy for TWLOHA is gaining him even more fan support. TWLOHA is an organization that is “dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.” It also raises awareness for those struggling with mental illness.

Doing this is important for Padalecki because he still sees people who struggle with the stigma associated with mental illness. He told People, “If somebody has cancer, they're not embarrassed to have cancer – they know it's not their fault. They know it's a struggle. But, for some reason, if someone says they're depressed, they assume that people are going to look at them like they have three heads. Hopefully, this is helping to start a conversation.”
