The Chicago Bears have reportedly agreed to send wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets. It’s not clear what the Jets will get in return just yet.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and has also been confirmed by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
Marshall, who is set to make $7.7 million for 2015 under his current contract, had a decent year on the field for the Bears, catching 61 psses for 721 yards. However, the Bears finished with a 5-11 record and he was reportedly at the center of locker room issues. Therefore, it wasn’t too surprising when news broke last night that the new Bears regime was considering trading him.
Marshall has played in the NFL for nine seasons and made the Pro Bowl five times. He was plagued with injuries last season, missing three games.
The Bears have a new general manager, Ryan Pace, and new head coach, John Fox. They still have to figure out what they plan to do with quarterback Jay Cutler, who struggled during 2014.
Marshall, 30, was with the Miami Dolphins for two seasons, during the same time that the Jets’ new coach, Todd Bowles, was there.
The deal won't be official until Tuesday at 4 p.m., when free agency begins.
