Despite all of the accomplishments over the course of his career, Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul says the only goal he has is to win a championship.
On Wednesday night, Paul and the Clippers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder and MVP candidate Russell Westbrook. Paul outplayed Westbrook, scoring 33 points to go along with nine assists. ESPN reports that when asked about the lack of consideration he's received for MVP, Paul said the only thing he's focused on is winning a title.
“I just need to win a championship," Paul said. "You can have whatever else. I don't care. You can have the assists and steals titles, you can have all that. I just need to win a championship.”
Although many consider Paul the best pure point guard in the league, he has yet to win a NBA title or even make it to the conference championship round.
Paul added that his approach to the game is different from what it was when he entered the league in 2005. According to Slam, Paul said that nowadays defense is his main priority whereas before he wanted to test his skills against other great point guards like Steve Nash.
Paul's 18.4 points and 10.1 assists per game have helped the Clippers to a 42-23 record and spot in the playoffs. With his 30th birthday approaching in May, Paul still has plenty of time to contend for a ring.
