The Indianapolis Colts said today that they have signed free agents Andre Johnson and Frank Gore.
The Houston Texans released Johnson on Monday after the wide receiver, 33, spent his first 12 years in the NFL with the team. Today, the Colts said that he signed there.
Johnson is a seven-time Pro Bowler and had 1,012 receptions for 13,597 yards with the Texans. He is ninth in NFL history in receptions and 12th in receiving yards.
Johnson will replace veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne, 36. The Colts said last week that they did not plan on re-signing him.
Meanwhile, the Colts said on Tuesday that they signed Gore. ESPN reports that the deal is for three years, $12 million. That’s more than what the Eagles were offering.
“It was tough," Gore told ESPN. "[The Eagles] really wanted me. When you're a free agent you want to be wanted. But I always wanted to come play for the Colts. I thought they had a [more] similar offense than the Eagles did.”
Like Johnson, Gore is a veteran who had spent his entire career with one team before joining the Colts. The running back spent his first 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Colts won the AFC South last season and beat the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. However, they lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
