It was a bizarre finish on Wednesday night’s episode of Jeopardy as one contestant found herself as the only contestant in the final round.
People.com noted that Kristin Sausville, beat out her other competitors, who each ended up in the red in Double Jeopardy, leaving her all alone to take the game in the Final Jeopardy round. Host Alex Trebek even joked that she might win the game.
Twitter was buzzing and perhaps there had not been so much talk about the show since the days of Ken Jennings (just imagine if there was social media back then).
"The vibe in the studio was shock," said Sausville, a stay-at-home-mom and school volunteer. "I hadn't realized that both of the other contestants were in the negative. My husband Justin was in the audience and later told me that there had been a lot of questions as to whether it had happened before."
Turns out it did happen before … one other time in the game’s history and ironically to a contestant who played against Sausville’s husband in the Tournament of Champions.
Sausville wagered $1,600 on her final question and answered incorrectly, but she compiled a two-day total of $31,601.
WTHR reported that if she wants to catch her husband though, she still has a ways to go. He was six-time champion who won $146,000.
