Wide receiver Danny Amendola is staying with the New England Patriots. He agreed to a contract restructuring on Thursday.

According to NFL.com, the Patriots gave Amendola a new three-year contract that’s worth $12.75 million, but can max out at $15 million. Amendola signed a five-year, $28.5 million contract with the Patriots in 2013. There was three years and $16.5 million left on that deal. He would have counted for $5.7 million against the Patriots salary cap this year. However with the new deal his cap number will be about $3.6 million.

Amendola replaced Wes Welker when he signed with the Patriots in 2013. He has struggled and not lived up to expectations since joining the Patriots. In his first year with the team he had 54 receptions for 633 yards and two touchdowns. Last year was worse as he had just 27 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown, according to the Boston Globe. In the playoffs Amendola had 11 receptions for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots have been busy since free agency began after losing cornerback Darrelle Revis, who left to go to the New York Jets. They have signed defensive end Jabaal Sheard, defensive end Chimdi Chekwa, and wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Brandon Gibson.
