Music executive David Geffen will donate a staggering $100 million to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ renovation of Avery Fisher Hall.
When completed, it will be renamed David Geffen Hall. It should be done around September just in time for the New York Philharmonic's 2015-16 season.
Los Angeles Times reports donating millions of dollars and having the end products named after him is nothing new for Geffen. There’s the Geffen Playhouse, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Geffen Contemporary all in California, though he’s a New York native.
Geffen told the New York Times, “It was a quick yes for me,” adding, “I’m an arts junkie.”
He won’t pay it all in a lump sum; instead he will pay it out over a period of eight years.
Geffen, 72, mused of Avery Fisher Hall that it “was never right,” adding, “The acoustics here have never been good.”
