The fiancée of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez will reportedly testify at his murder trial on Friday.
Sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Associated Press that Shayanna Jenkins, who is engaged and has a young child with Hernandez, will be called as a witness on Friday.
As previously reported, Jenkins was granted immunity last month by Judge Susan Garsh, but it was unclear at the time if she definitely would take the stand. She is facing several counts of lying to a grand jury about what occurred the night of Odin Lloyd’s murder.
Prosecutors all along have said that they believe she disposed of the murder weapon, so she will likely be peppered with questions referring to that. Her sister, Shaneah Jenkins, testified earlier in the trial that her sibling was acting strange the night the semi-professional football player was killed.
Hernandez is accused of murdering Lloyd in 2013. The victim’s body was found at an industrial park near the former NFL star’s home. He was shot to death.
This is the first of two murder trials for Hernandez. The next will be for allegedly fatally shooting two men outside a Boston Nightclub in 2012. He has plead not guilty to all of the charges against him.
The murder weapon used to kill Lloyd has never been found.
