The trailer for the Kurt Cobain documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck has been released ahead of its May 4 premiere date on HBO.
The teaser shows the Nirvana frontman as a baby, a father to his daughter with Courtney Love, Frances Bean, and of course, his rock n’ roll years.
The documentary is the first authorized look at Cobain’s life, directed by Brett Morgen and executive produced by Frances Bean. Love relinquished control over the film because she's one of the subjects.
Montage of Heck was highly lauded at festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival. It consists of interviews with those closest to him, footage from Nirvana’s tours and home movies from his childhood.
Rolling Stone reports Morgen also incorporated animation into the film to portray the inner workings of Cobain’s mind and personality. The director also did this in the Robert Evans documentary he directed, The Kid Stays in the Picture.
