Fox has a new assignment for Detective Jake Peralta: hosting the Emmys. The network and the Television Academy announced today that Andy Samberg will host the 67th annual ceremony to honor the best in television.

The news comes a month after Fox scheduled the Emmys for Sept. 20 at 8 p.m., from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. Fox last aired the Emmys in 2011, with Glee’s Jane Lynch hosting. Since Glee is ending, Fox is opting for another breakout star for the network.

Samberg previously starred on NBC’s Saturday Night Live before he joined Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show is actually a Universal TV production and, in some ways, is pretty much a Parks and Recreation-type series set in a police department. (That’s because it was co-created by Parks’ Michael Schur and Daniel Goor.)

“Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers!” Samberg said in a statement. “Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you're not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you're not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I'm hosting, and it's gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts.”

In addition to the first-time host, the TV Academy announced on Feb. 20 that there will be some big changes coming for the major categories. There will now be seven nominees each for the Drama and Comedy Series categories. In addition, any show that is over 30 minutes will be considered a “drama,” while any show under 30 minutes is a “comedy.”
