Former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore was supposed to be ready to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he’s reportedly backed out of the deal. Now, the Indianapolis Colts are looking like the team to beat in the Gore contest.

Back on Sunday, there were reports that the veteran had decided to sign with the Eagles for three years and $7.5 million guaranteed. However, late Monday, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Gore had pulled out of the deal.

Rapoport reports that the Colts are now the team that could swoop in and sign Gore. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Gore “struggled with [the] decision” to go with the Eagles.

The Eagles needed to make a deal with a veteran running back like Gore after coach Chip Kelly decided to trade LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

As ESPN notes, the 31-year-old Gore has four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons. In fact, the only season over the past nine years that he didn’t hit that threshold was in 2010 when he had a hip injury. Gore is also a five-time Pro Bowler.
