Bill Murray and director Sofia Coppola reuniting for a mini-Lost in Translation reunion is a cause of celebration in-and-of-itself. Throw in Christmas and some appearances by George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, however, and you get an exceptionally jolly time this holiday season.
That's right, according to The Hollywood Reporter, all these stars signed on to appear in Coppola's untitled Christmas project. They all play themselves, just like Murray, and a few even sing a couple carols to boot. Filming already is underway.
A distribution deal is not yet set, as reports say sources continue to work out how to release this special later this year. Murray is the focus of the project, as he goes back to his Scrooged days to play his agent/manager-less self as a talent shark desperately tries to sign him. Also of note is Dmitri Dmitrov, the Sunset Tower host and a man Murray frequently visited during his SNL days, took a couple days off work to play Murray's valet in the special.
Murray's involvement was first announced around October last year, where he told Variety about how "it's not going to be live" and "we're going to do it like a little movie."
"It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose," Murray explained. "It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice."
Clooney's next seen in Brad Bird's Tomorrowland on May 22, and also has roles in the Coen brothers' Hail, Ceasar/i> and Jodie Foster's Money Monster in the works currently.
Poehler, meanwhile, having just finished up her run on Parks and Recreation, soon is heard in Pixar's Inside Out and then reunites with Tina Fey in Sisters later this year. She also appears in Netflix's upcoming Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
Rudolph also appears in Sisters, and also has roles in Mr. Pig, The Greens Are Gone, Maggie's Plan, Angry Birds and the TV series Brothers in Atlanta.
