The world says goodbye to one of the most ground-breaking television shows of our time. Ryan Murphy’s Glee will take its final bow and the world is left feeling touched and changed by a show, like life, had its great moments and not so great moments. With this show, Ryan Murphy paved the way for other shows like Empire, The Fosters and Orange is the New Black.

For the past six years we have watched the McKinley students from Lima, Ohio grow up and face challenges that are a crucial part of our culture today. Every kid in the world has to face teenage drama that is a part of the existence of every being.

What set the New Directions, the little Gleeclub that could, apart from the norm are the characters that were written. Not only was there a big amount of diversity which has been seen before, but what was not done until Ryan Murphy created him, was the existence of an openly gay teen on television.

Kurt Hummel played by Chris Colfer respectively, was a young man at Mckinley who was the stereotypical teen getting thrown into dumpsters, slushied and bullied at the start of season one. Getting slushied was not just saved for him because of his being gay, but any “loser” in the Glee club was getting slushied.

Ryan Murphy made these characters own the “differences” and not shy away from them or scare easily. This is part of the reason that a show could help mold a new world.

The creators tackled every issue with a realness and softness to not overwhelm the viewer. Having the world view into the life of an openly gay teen on a major television network is a huge feat and television is making grounds for the LGBT community, but know that Ryan Murphy and the show’s cast is a huge part of the change.

Bringing controversial storylines with a song and a dance in between each scene that tells a story of how it feels growing up different and feeling not heard as most teens do and helping the world realize one song at a time that the underdog is where its at. This is the heart of an epic storytelling, world changing and award winning bonafide hit.

Don’t forget about the mashups that all Gleeks looked forward to. The show performed great mash-ups that are still enjoyable even from five years ago. In its freshman and sophomore year, Glee became so popular that the cast even went on tour and performed live concerts.

As you prepare for the series finale, take a look at our list of some of the memorable performances not ranked in any order that have aired over the last six years that has helped shape a nation. Remember before you throw that slushie at another person, know that they are a human being and bleed just like you and most importantly you may think someone is a “zero” , but they may become your “hero.”

Be good to others.
