Halle Berry wishes she wasn't the only black woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress.

In an interview with The Guardian, Berry said that she isn't happy about the lack of recognition people of color receive when it's time to hand out awards.

"I’m disappointed," Berry said. "I’m inspired though, when I see how many people of color are doing such good work out there. The quality and value of our work isn’t determined by an award."

Berry added that these actors are successful when they can depict people of color in everyday situations instead of films garnered toward race. The Huffington Post reports that Berry also noted that finding roles at the age of 48 is as difficult for her as it was when she was 21 because of limited options for black actresses.

Berry became the first black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in 2002's Monster Ball as a poor Southern woman who falls in love with a prison guard. Berry has worked her way into television recently as she stars in the CBS series Extant.
