The National Transportation Safety Board has published a preliminary report on Harrison Ford’s plane crash, just five days after the crash. The report confirms that the engine of the vintage World War II plane the actor was piloting lost power shortly after takeoff.
Ford had just left the Santa Monica Municipal Airport on Thursday, when he reported that the Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR plane he was flying had lost engine power. According to the NTSB, Ford was the only occupant of the plane and he did not file a flight plan.
After reporting his engine trouble, Ford attempted to turn around and head back to the airport.
“The pilot initiated a left turn back towards the airport; the airplane subsequently struck the top of a tall tree prior to impacting the ground in an open area of a golf course, about 800 feet southwest of the approach end of runway,” the NTSB report reads.
Although the Indiana Jones actor was seriously injured, he is expected to make a full recovery. His son, Ben Ford, tweeted that Ford was “battered, but OK.”
Ford recently filmed the new Star Wars movie, which hits theaters on Dec. 18.
