Looking may have attracted critical praise and a devoted fanbase, but the show never became a breakout hit. So, after two seasons, HBO has decided to cancel Michael Lannan’s series.
The show, which stars Jonathan Groff, just finished its second season with a cliffhanger. However, HBO will give the show a special to help tie up any loose ends in the story.
“After two years of following Patrick (Groff) and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special,” HBO said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans.”
Looking centered on a group of gay friends in San Francisco and included 18 total episodes. The second season finale drew just 298,000 viewers on its first airing.
HBO’s comedy line-up includes the recently renewed Togetherness, Silicon Valley, Veep and Girls. The Brink with Jack Black and Tim Robbins is among the new comedies in development at the network.
