Russell Crowe was one of the hottest actors in the early 2000s, with fans around the world. While many of these fans showed their appreciation by turning Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind and other films into hits, Michael Jackson showed his appreciation by tormenting the Oscar winner.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Crowe brought up his bizarre relationship with the King of Pop, if you can call it a relationship at all. Crowe said that MJ would called him up at hotels “for two or three f**king years.”

“I never met him, never shook his hand, but he found out the name I stayed in hotels under, so it didn’t matter where I was, he’d ring up do this kind of thing, like you did when you were 10, you know,” Crowe said. “‘Is Mr Wall there? Is Mrs Wall there? Are there any Walls there? Then what’s holding the roof up? Ha ha.’ You’re supposed to grow out of doing that, right?”

While you have to wonder why Jackson would pick on Crowe, you also have to ask why the actor stuck with that pseudonym for so long.

This isn’t the first time Crowe has talked about the prank calls he received from Jackson. As ET Online notes, he mentioned it in a 2013 interview with The Sun.

“He'd ring me and in a strong voice and say, 'There is an emergency and you need to leave the building’” Crowe recalled. “I'd ask, 'Who is this?' And he'd say, 'Do not worry Russell, just kidding, this is Michael.’”

Crowe directed himself in his latest movie, The Water Diviner, which hits theaters on April 24. The film was already released in Crowe’s native Australia in December. It also stars Olga Kurylenko and Jai Courtney.
