The Houston Texans have reportedly released wide receiver Andre Johnson after the team was unsuccessful in trying to trade him.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Texans have released the wideout and other media outlets have said it is because the team was unable to find a trade partner for him.

As noted last week, Johnson and the team were headed for a split after the receiver requested to be traded. Johnson asked for the trade when he was told by head coach Bill O’ Brien that his role in the offense would be reduced in the upcoming season.

Johnson was scheduled to make $11.5 million next season. The team will save $8.825 million in salary cap space from his reported release.

The 33-year-old caught 85 passes for 936 yards and three touchdowns in 2014 and is second in career receptions among active players behind former Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne.

The reported trades and cuts leading up to Tuesday have been some of the most talked about in recent memory with a lot of teams saying goodbye to star players.

Johnson is no exception, he was a star in Houston since 2003 and now he will have to try and shine for another team.
