Lady Gaga’s Oscars performance was a huge hit with the audience, viewers at home and perhaps most importantly, its honoree, Julie Andrews. Andrews is now revealing a phone call she had with Gaga about a week ahead of film’s biggest night.

Andrews said it was “very generous” of Gaga to call her ahead of the performance honoring the 50th anniversary of Sound of Music to make sure she was OK with it.

“She called me about 10 days before and she said, 'I just want to talk to you and make sure I don't offend. That what I'm doing is okay with you,'” she told People.

Gaga sang the songs in the same keys Andrews did in the film to honor her, which Andrews said went “one step beyond” what she needed to do.

"She said she'd been working so hard and she was singing everything in my keys,” she continued. When Andrews admitted they were high “even for me,” Gaga replied, “’I wanted to honor you, so I did them in your keys.'”

Overall, Andrews said Gaga “hit it out of the ballpark,” adding, “As they say in Hollywood jargon, 'She rates tall in my book.’”
