Kathy Griffin has broken her silence on the Fashion Police changes, involving Kelly Osbourne quitting after Giuliana Rancic’s comments about Zendaya’s dreadlocks.

There have been reports that Osbourne was “furious” over the way E! handled the situation, leading to her quitting, but Griffin reveals her leaving the show might not be entirely because of that one incident.

“Sometimes she seemed very upset at the merely seven tapings of Fashion Police we did together,” Griffin told Chicago Sun-Times.

She continued of the Osbournes, “I adore that family. I can tell you there was genuine love there.”

As for Rancic’s “patchouli oil” and “weed” comments about Zendaya’s hair, Griffin confirmed reports that a writer wrote the joke.

“Some dude wrote it for her,” she said. However, she did note that she wouldn’t have said the joke if it was given to her.

"Don’t have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you,” she advised to Rancic, adding she has “enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That’s what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself.”

Griffin went on to say commenting on something like Miley Cyrus’ antics is “fair game” but “simply looking at a photo of her on a red carpet and saying she is ugly or a bad singer or pathetic or something like that” is not.

"Name-calling and alliteration with no comedic context is simply the lowest hanging fruit," she added.
