With changes underway at NBC News in an effort to return the organization to its glory days, there’s rumors that Kate Couric could be back. That’s reportedly not sitting well with those who currently work there.

Back on Friday, The New York Post claimed that Couric wants to go back to NBC News to work with Andrew Lack again. As previously reported, Lack is officially returning to NBC to replace Pat Fili-Krushel as NBC News and MSNBC chairman. Lack was Couric’s boss during her Today Show days through 2001.

After the Post’s report, NBC insiders told The Daily News and The Post that Couric would not be welcomed back with open arms.

“Please say this isn’t going to happen. We can’t go back to that, there will be a revolt,” a NBC News staffer told the Daily News.

Sources for CNN claim that if Couric came back, she would likely have a “Barbara Walters-type role,” in which she would only do major interviews.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Couric wants to come back to NBC. In February, the Post claimed that Couric still has contacts within NBC News who would actually want her back so she could anchor Nightly News if Brian Williams is officially let go. (Williams is currently on a six-month suspension without pay.) Couric later denied the rumor that she would want to return to NBC.

The other issue for Couric is that she is still working for ABC and Yahoo. She left NBC in 2006 after joining CBS.
