Over the weekend, a report that former child star Jermaine Hopkins, who starred in Lean On Me with Morgan Freeman, was arrested for trying to buy 200 pounds of marijuana went viral. The only problem is that this happened back in 2011.

For some inexplicable reason, The Daily Mail ran a story about the arrest, claiming that Hopkins was “arrested recently.” Yeah, that’s only if you have a very loose definition of the word “recently.”

The story cited a Phoenix New Times report, but a quick Google search finds that the only time that paper reported on Hopkins was back in December 2011.

At the time, an undercover Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy arrested Hopkins for allegedly trying to buy 200 pounds of marijuana. The actor, who also appeared in Juice and Law & Order, was found to have $100,000 in cash in his vehicle.

Hopkins was later sentenced to just 30 days in jail and was released in April 2012, TMZ reported at the time.

“I am so glad to put this legal battle behind me so that I can begin moving forward with re-establishing my acting career,” Hopkins told TMZ in 2012.

Sadly for Hopkins, the most recent credit on his IMDb page is a movie called Zoo, released in 2012.

The Daily Mail has not updated its story and there’s no note explaining why they reported this out of the blue.
