Liza Minnelli has checked into rehab for substance abuse issues, mainly alcoholism, in Malibu, Calif. She’s already been there a few days and has been doing wonderfully so far.
A rep for the singer, whose iconic mother Judy Garland overdosed in 1969 at the age of 47, told TMZ she’s made "excellent progress" so far.
"Liza has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so,” her spokesman Scott Gorenstein also said. The last time Minnelli checked into rehab was 2004 and she’s sought treatment multiple times over the years, starting in the ‘80s.
CBS News notes Minnelli, 69, underwent surgery back in September for her back, which held her back from performing for a while.
Minnelli is a rare EGOT winner; having won an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy. Her most recent film was Sex And The City 2 in 2010.
