It has been six years since actress Natasha Richardson passed away after suffering a head injury during a ski trip. Her son Micheal, 19, has opened up about how his mother’s death affected him.

According to The Sunday Times, the son of actor Liam Neeson is planning to open a fashion gallery in London and is hoping his newest venture will allow him to end the darker period of his life when he struggled with both drug and alcohol use.

E! News reported Neeson said, “But in my mind, subconsciously, I either pushed it out or stored it deep inside.”

Growing up as a teenager, Neeson partied heavily in New York City and he used to insist that it was just a part of growing up and having fun. However, when he began to hit “rock bottom,” he began to spend time with new friends and he got help for his alcoholism in Utah.

Neeson admitted, “Not having the mother figure definitely set the balance of family off.” He described himself as being a “momma’s boy” and he gave his father credit for doing what he could to help his son get to a better place. He spoke of his father as being “a hardworking man…I respect that.”

People reported that while he is currently a fashion curator, he says that becoming an actor is an “interest,” however his famous father isn’t very enthused with the idea. Neeson revealed, “My dad says, ‘Please, can you just be a farmer or a bartender or something?’”

Most likely, though, he feels his mom would approve of his decision.
