After losing a lot of popular shows in recent years like Parks and Recreation and The Office, NBC is turning to Ellen DeGeneres yet again for a new series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered the new documentary series First Dates produced by Ellen DeGeneres.
Based on the UK series of the same name, First Dates will document a variety of actual first dates, all occurring on the same night at the same restaurant. The network said that viewers will judge how the couple is interacting and if they're a good fit for each other. The original UK show is currently in its third season on Channel 4.
The original show has a whole lot of pretty awkward moments involving really bad dates. All of the couples in the show have not met before, and so viewers often get to enjoy the comedy of really weird interactions and embarrassing romantic lines. The show usually cuts between footage of the date and interviews with the couple involved.
NBC has ordered eight episodes of the show, which is going right into production this July in Chicago.
This will be another Ellen DeGeneres produced show after One Big Happy, which premiered on March 17 to 5.4 million viewers. DeGeneres also recently premiered the hidden camera show Repeat After Me on ABC.
