It has been a few months since we heard anything from Oscar Pistorious’ legal team after the athlete was found guilty of culpable homicide in October. On Friday though, his attorneys tried to stop an appeal from prosecutors.
The Associated Press reported Judge Thokozile Masipa, who presided over and gave the verdict in the Pistorius’ trial, dismissed an application given to her by the Paralympian’s lawyers to challenge the prosecution’s appeal.
The double amputee’s attorneys tried unsuccessfully to block prosecutors from arguing for a more serious murder charge against their client.
“The order that I grant in this matter is to strike off the application,” Judge Masipa said.
As previously noted, in December, the judge granted permission for her verdict to be appealed and that the prosecution could seek a more serious murder charge against Pistorious.
The “Blade Runner” was found guilty of manslaughter in October for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door at his home two years ago. Under the lesser manslaughter charge, Pistorius was sentenced to five years behind bars.
