Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Wesley Matthews is out for the remainder of the NBA season following an injury where he tore his Achilles Thursday night.

ESPN reported that the injury occurred in the third quarter of the team’s 94-75 win over the Dallas Mavericks. Matthews fell to the ground in obvious pain and had to be helped off the court, which is of course usually a telltale sign that the prognosis is not good.

After the game, he told reporters that he did have an MRI and it revealed that he indeed ruptured his Achilles.

“It's disbelief, you know?" he said. "I'm sitting up there in that tube having an MRI, and I don't hear noise, I don't feel my Achilles, I'm just ... I can't believe I'm up there while my team's battling. I just haven't processed all of it yet."

The 28-year-old is nicknamed “Ironman,” mainly because he has only missed 13 games since he started his career with the Trail Blazers in 2009.

USA Today noted that for his replacement the team could go with Arron Afflalo, who came over last month from the Denver Nuggets.

Some of Matthews’ Portland teammates took to Twitter to send him prayers and well wishes.
