Roger Moore is denying that he made disparaging remarks about the possible casting of actor Idris Elba in the role of James Bond.

According to New York Daily News, Moore came under fire by users on social media over comments he had made about the casting of Elba as being “unrealistic” since he described Elba as not being “English-English.” Many fans were not happy, especially since Elba was raised in London.

Taking to his Twitter account, Moore responded back by saying, “An interview I gave to Paris Match implies I said something racist about Idris Elba. That is simply untrue. #Lost in translation.”

Rumors have been swirling about Elba’s possible casting, including the fact that in one of the leaked e-mails that former Sony Pictures executive Amy Pascale wrote, she thought he would be right for the role.

After Rush Limbaugh blasted the idea of Elba playing the role, the actor himself commented on the possibility of playing the iconic character. As previously reported, Elba said in an AMA chat for Reddit that he would take the part “if it was offered to me.”
