Yesterday, an announcement was made that Sacha Baron Cohen would once again be part of a biopic in which he would play the late singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury. However, it has been revealed by one of Queen’s band members that it was only a joke that was made and he wouldn’t be returning.

According to Spin, guitarist Brian May posted an update on his website to inform fans that Jim Beach, their manager, had only been joking when he said that the actor would be returning to not only write and direct the biopic, but would also star in “all four major roles.”

As previously reported, the comments made by Beach came Thursday evening while in London for the Artist & Management Awards. He had said they had been able to “persuade Sacha Baron Cohen to write, produce and direct this movie, and he has also agreed to star.”

Cohen had previously been attached to play Mercury, but left due to creative differences. NME reported other people who were rumored to be a replacement for Cohen included Ben Wishaw and Daniel Radcliffe, who dispelled rumors by saying, “I am completely wrong for that part!”

There is still no word on a release date for the film.
