Former New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen is reportedly joining the New York Giants.

The deal was first reported by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, who noted that Vereen was one of the Giants’ top priority. The team, which missed the playoffs in 2014, wanted a third running back to go with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams.

The terms of the deal have not been reported yet.

Vereen showed off his versatility during the postseason, especially during the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The 29-year-old caught 11 passes during the Super Bowl, notes ESPN.

Vereen has had 99 receptions over the past two seasons and had 391 yards rushing on 96 carries in 2014. The Patriots drafted him in 2011.

The Patriots will have to bring in a new running back, as Stevan Ridley is also a free agent. So far, the team’s big offseason move has been re-signing Devin McCourty for five seasons. The team also declined to pick up Darrelle Revis’ option.
