We haven't seen a whole lot of Lauren Ambrose since her performance on HBO's Six Feet Under, but the actress will soon be returning with another lead role on TV in a new ABC show.

According to Variety, Lauren Ambrose has been cast in the pilot for ABC's Broad Squad, a new cop drama.

Set in 1978, Ambrose will be playing Eileen, among the first four women to graduate from Boston’s Police Academy. She's described as a rookie cop who struggles to adjust to her new job in addition to taking care of her son and her wounded husband at home.

Charlotte Spencer, Rutina Wesley and Cody Horn will be playing the three other female leads. The show will also star Michael Gaston as the captain and Kenneth Mitchel as Eileen's husband, according to TV Line.

According to Deadline, Capt. Donahue (Michael Gaston) oversees what is essentially a boys-club police precinct and is bothered by the presence of these four new women.

Broad Squad will be directed by Coky Giedroyc (The Killing, Penny Dreadful) and written by Bess Wohl (CSI: NY).

Lauren Ambrose recently appeared on the miniseries Dig, which airs Thursdays at 10 on USA.

Ambrose is best known for her role as Claire Fisher on Six Feet Under. Claire was the youngest daughter of the Fisher family and a pretty complex character, growing a lot over the course of the five season series. Ambrose proved herself to be a pretty capable actress on that show, and so it will be great to see her on TV again, hopefully being given another complex role to tackle.
